An apron made up of six strips of overlapping thin aluminum sheeting salvaged from newspaper printers was bolted as a belt all around the lower edge of the dome reaching to about 5 mm from the surface of the roof and overlapping the outer border of the base ring.
This served to shield the inside from drafts, rain and light while allowing free movement of the dome.
Next, four small fan extractors were installed, two in front and two behind to provide ventilation and limit heat build up in the summer when temperatures outside can soar to above 40 C. Painting of the newly fitted apron and the remaining outside surfaces of the dome was finished.
